Dear Sisters,
As we enter the month of Kislev, and look forward to the festival of lights. I am blessed daily with the new life my daughter has brought into this world, Ava Clara Margules, and feel such deep gratitude for the light she brings to our home.
My family is known for its strong women, starting with my grandmother, Clara Lemlich who helped form the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU), and her daughter, my mother Rita Margules who has been a force in B’nai B’rith and was recently honored at the Senior Housing Building which she worked to build in Flushing, Queens. Now I marvel at the strength and determination of my daughter, Danielle, as she raises her daughter Ava and teaches her about the strong woman she is named for.

Chanukah is a time of rededication. It was my honor to witness the rededication of the B’nai B’rith House in New York and celebrate the hard work of the determined Jewish people in that community who fulfilled the mitzvah of taking care of our elders and less fortunate and established a caring community for them.
